German Chocolate Cake is a moist chocolate cake that is filled and frosted with a sticky coconut, and pecan filling. Despite its name the cake isn’t German at all.¬† The cake was originally created using a specific type of chocolate that chocolatier, Samuel German created which was then named German chocolate. This chocolate has a milder taste then dark and milk and therefore doesn’t have an overpowering¬† chocolate flavor.

In addition to the chocolate cake its filling is a combination of toasted coconut and pecans mixed with evaporated milk and butter which makes an almost caramel-like filling is dangerously delicious. It’s truly what makes the cake so unique. If you have not tried this cake, this is a good time to start.
